Govt. Mizo High School Donates IOT-Based Air Quality Monitoring Devices to Zoram Medical College & Hospital

On 21 November 2025, Govt. Mizo High School, Aizawl handed over two Internet of Things (IoT)–based HOSPISAFE Air Quality Online Monitoring Devices to Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H). The devices were developed by students and teachers at the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL).
The Device Offering Programme was held at the Office of the Medical Superintendent, ZMC&H, at 2:30 PM. Representing the school were Rev. Dr. K. Thanzauva, Consultant, School Education, and Smt. Angela Zothanpuii, Director, School Education, who formally presented the devices. Prof. Lalnunmawii Sailo, Medical Superintendent, and Prof. T. Vanlalhluna, Sub-Dean (Hospital Administration), received the devices on behalf of ZMC&H.
Mr. Hmingchungnunga, Headmaster, shared how the Atal Tinkering Lab has been actively used to foster innovation in the school. He highlighted that a prototype of the device was first demonstrated during the 2023 THUL Exhibition, after which ZMC&H requested the school to develop functional units for hospital use.
Dr. H. Lalrinmawi, ATL Teacher-In-Charge, presented the technical report, explaining the rigorous effort invested in building the devices — including sourcing specialised components from the USA. Students of Class IX also demonstrated the working of HOSPISAFE.
Doctors at ZMC&H expressed great appreciation for the devices. While similar equipment had been created earlier for research purposes, the device developed by Govt. Mizo High School is unique, new, and patent-registered. Designed specifically for hospital use, the device has been named HOSPISAFE.
About the HOSPISAFE Device
HOSPISAFE is an Internal Air Quality Monitoring System capable of measuring:
Temperature
Humidity
Carbon dioxide levels
Particulate matter
The device supports continuous room monitoring, improving patient safety and helping hospitals maintain better indoor air quality. It also provides valuable data for researchers. A key feature is its ability to allow authorised users—such as microbiologists—to access data remotely from anywhere, even from Delhi.
Data is automatically uploaded to a Google Form every two minutes, and a user-friendly dashboard is provided for easy viewing.
The school expressed great pride in being able to contribute such useful and innovative tools to ZMC&H, and ZMC&H expressed equal happiness at being able to use the devices for hospital and laboratory applications.
Zonet Media covered the event, and the programme has also been shared on the school’s YouTube channel and website (mizohighschool.edu.in).
About the Atal Tinkering Lab
There are more than 5,000 ATLs across India under the NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission. Govt. Mizo High School established its ATL on 27 January 2022, and has since received three ATL of the Month certificates. Mizoram currently has 15 ATLs.
